More extreme than extreme, Devin “HevyDevy” Townsend is.
This aggressive performance was held at Download Festival on 9 Jun 2006.
“Wrong side” is taken from Strapping Young Lad’s 5th studio album “New Black” (Century Media, 2005).
“Zen” is taken from Strapping Young Lad’s 4th studio album “Alien” (HevyDevy, Century Media, 2005).
“Alien” is one of the best extreme metal albums, distinguished for its progressive approach and philosophical lyrics.
This song title “Zen” is obviously derived from Zen (Chinese character is 禅), which is the maditation form of Buddhism. We can achieve our mindfulness through constant training of Zen. In this song, I guess Devin expresses his thought about this maditation style in order to show the way to our better life and feeling.
The extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad performed their song “Love” at ‘The Sounds of The Underground Tour‘ in 2005.
The joke of Devin Townsend with ‘his friend’ make us laugh before their performance, but they suddenly throw us into their heavy, progressive and aggressive metal sound.
“Detox” is taken from “City” (1997) , 2nd stdio album of the extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad.
Strapping Young Lad was formed by Devin Townsend in Vancouver in 1994. By 1997, three permanent members joined; Jed Simon on guitar, Byron Stroud on bass, and Gene Hoglan on drums.
