Strapping Young Lad – “Zen” PV & Making of “Alien”

“Zen” is taken from Strapping Young Lad’s 4th studio album “Alien” (HevyDevy, Century Media, 2005).

“Alien” is one of the best extreme metal albums, distinguished for its progressive approach and philosophical lyrics.

This song title “Zen” is obviously derived from Zen (Chinese character is 禅), which is the maditation form of Buddhism. We can achieve our mindfulness through constant training of Zen. In this song, I guess Devin expresses his thought about this maditation style in order to show the way to our better life and feeling.

Lyrics

Oh, did you think that I was kidding
Oh, did you think that I was
Oh, too late, too late…
Aw, too late motherfucker

Must remember to keep both feet on the ground
Everything in my life is turning around

Then… we’re the only ones
We’re gods, not demons

Zen
Zen
Zen…(on the way I’m feeling)
Zen…(on the way we’re feeling)

On we go…we’re waiting now…

Are you looking at me
Why do you keep looking at me
Am I not merciful

Yes
We’re the only ones
We’re gods and demons

Zen
Zen
Zen…(on the way I’m feeling)
Zen…(on the way we’re feeling)
Zen…(on the way I’m feeling)
Zen…(on the way we’re feeling)

Connect now and emerge.

These interesting films are produced by Cinester Films from Canada. We can see “an amazing chronicle of the complexity of work behind the scenes during a modern
high end recording project… S.Y.L.’s opus album ‘Alien'”. They also made the “Zen” music video.
